First Time User Instructions

In order to use the "Members" portion of the Fleet 15 web site you need a "User ID". If you have received an email indicating that you have a User ID, then please follow the directions below to set an initial password and to beging using the the "Members" portion of the web site.

All active skippers and active volunteers have a User ID, whether it has ever been used or not. You are considered active if you sailed or volunteered in a non-practice race in the last two years.

Please be aware that

  1. this has nothing to do with the OYC or Fleet 15 Facebook sites (which are not actively maintained),
  2. the Orleans Yacht Club web site is independent of the Fleet 15 web site,
  3. your OYC User ID and password are independent of the User ID for this site, and
  4. your User ID for the Fleet 15 web site is not your email address.

Bon chance (Good luck). If you have problems, please contact Curtis Villamizar.

Brief instructions are provided below. These should be sufficient. More detailed instructions including screen shots are provided in the next section for those that prefer the additional detail.

  1. Go to this URL:
         https://fleet15dsa.org/member.php
This is not the OYC web site so you will have to enter the above URL in your web browser.

  2. Ignore the User ID and Password fields. Look below that.

  3. Enter your email address where it says Email. Just use that email address such as yourname@provider. Do not include the angle brackets (< or >).

  4. Click on the button that says Recover (just below where you entered your email address).

  5. If it says No user ID found with email address ... then use the Back button (usually a right to left arrow on the top banner or menus provided on your web browser) and try another email address if you use a different one sometimes.

  6. If that worked you should see Email has been sent to ....

  7. Check your email. You should have email with a subject containing Recover fleet15 ID for user ... .

  8. That email should start with To reset the password for ... and then give a URL and a string to enter.

Either paste the URL and string into the web browser or type them exactly as they appear in the email message.

  9. If you enter the URL exactly as provided in the email, and enter the string exactly as provided, then you should see a form asking for your new password.

  10. Enter your new password (whatever you want, non-obvious please) in two places on the form and click on Submit.

  11. That's it. Your new password has been set. You will get a blank page that just says Your password change was sucessful.

  12. Next time you go to https://fleet15dsa.org/member.php again you will have a User ID and password where only you know the password.

Keep in mind that your User ID is not your email address. You have to remember both your User ID and your password.

Please note that once you log in your session will remain active as long as you click on a new page or a button on a form once every ten minutes. Sessions time out after ten minutes of inactivity and after that time you will have to log in again.

Detailed Instructions

Screen shots in this section use the Firefox browser (Mozilla Foundation). The top banners provided by the browser may be different in other browsers but are similar in the Chrome browser (Google), Internet Explorer (Microsoft), and (less so) in Safari (Apple). The screens may look very different in a tablet or cell phone browser. The screen shots showing email will look different depending on what email provider and program you use.

  7. Check your email. You should have email with a subject containing Recover fleet15 ID for user ... . This will look something like the following:

Subject: Recover fleet15 ID for user [your UserID]

To reset the password for user "[your UserID]" visit the url
    	https://fleet15dsa.org/recover.php?u=[number]&t=[number]
and enter the string "[some string]"
(exactly as shown, but without the quotes).

You will then be prompted to enter a new password.

Please do not reply to this email.

Do not delete the email message yet. The web site will refuse to send another email for eight hours to prevent a outsider from causing you to get repeated emails by entering your email and clicking on Recover many times. If you delete this email message before completing the password reset you will have to wait eight hours before trying again.

  8. That email should start with To reset the password for ... and then give a URL and a string to enter. The entries above within square brackets ([ and ]) will vary.

Try not to forget your password (at least for the next eight hours). At this point you should delete the email because the URL and string in that email message can only be used once. If you do later forget your password you can repeat this process starting at the beginning.
