Orleans Yacht Club (OYC) Adult Racing
OYC's adult racing program includes Sunday afternoon club series races, a club championship, and two regattas. All adult races and regattas are open to sailors of all ages.
One-Design Racing
In one-design racing all sailors race boats of the same design, known as a one-design class. The specifications for the boats in any given one-design class and any rules specific to the class are determined by a class association. The two types of boats competitively raced at OYC are daysailer and sunfish. The class association for daysailers is the Daysailer Association and the class association for sunfish is the International Sunfish Class Association. The potential to race other one-design classes of boats at OYC is discussed further on the Other One Design web page.
OYC Club Race Series and Club Championship
Currently the OYC club series and championship are daysailer one-design races. At times sunfish have also raced on Sundays on a recreational basis, with separate starts for each class. If there is sufficient interest future, then sunfish will be added as an additional one-design class in both club series races and championship races.
The club series and club championship are open to OYC members, including Racing Associate members. The OYC Racing Associate Membership is an inexpensive membership class to promote adult racing.
The club series races are held on nearly every Sunday from early to mid June through mid to late August. Either two series of four race days each or three series of three races each are run each year. See the Adult Race Schedule for the current season's schedule.
Regattas
OYC runs two adult (all ages) regattas. In mid summer the Daysailer Regatta is held on a Saturday with a Sunday rain date. In late September the Yankee Duo Regatta is held. The Yankee Duo is a pair of sunfish regattas on consecutive days, a Saturday and Sunday.
