Participating in OYC Adult Racing and Regattas

OYC has always included active adult and junior sailing programs. During the early years of the Club, the adults sailed Town Class boats and the juniors sailed Beetle Cats, Widgeons, and Turnabouts. The current adult OYC racing class is the DaySailer, a not quite 17 foot sailing dinghy originally built by O'Day. OYC hosts a sunfish regatta and is trying to build local critical mass to support a sunfish fleet and sunfish club races.

The OYC's adult racing program involves in intra-club racing as well as supporting a daysailer regatta and sunfish regatta. The intra-club races are a friendly competition, with emphasis on friendship, mentoring, and good sportsmanship. Sailors with limited sailing experience and no racing experience are encouraged to participate in club racing and can expect encouragement and mentoring.

Volunteering or Learning to Sail

Those simply interested in enjoying some time on the water can volunteer to help on the race committee boat or in the safety boats. No experience is needed. See the Volunteer Information page for details. Those who simply want to sign up to volunteer should go directly to the Volunteer Schedule page.

OYC corrinthian members and OYC senior members interested in learning to sail or improving their sailing skill can participate in the OYC Adult Sailing Program (ASP). The ASP is a free program for OYC members.

Competing in OYC Adult Racing and Regattas
